How to make a metal cage in blender v1
The steps in case the video was not intuitive enough
Step 2 Subdivide the cube twice
Step 3 Enter edit mode
Step 4 Enable wire frame modifier
😖At this point it looks like a cage but it is probably too thin for most animations and renders so that brings us to the next stage
Step 5 Activate the skin modifier
Step 6 Enter edit mode
Step 6 Adjust the thickness of the cube by using control A while in edit mode until you are satisfied with the result
Step 7 Add a new material to the cube which at this point looks like a metal cage
Step 8 At this you have more creative freedom you can add colour to the cage using which ever option suits you the most of the list bellow
- Option 1 use the color wheel
- Option 2 Use a colour ramp
- Option 3 which might be the easiest and most accurate use metal textures
- Option 4 Use a mix shader that has a glossy shader with roughness set to 0 mixed with another glossy shader with a Fresnel added to the strength value
Step 8 render the final cage ↔ Or export to some other supported software like a game engine eg Unity Unreal engine buildbox etc
